Metabolomics is new omics platform that offers great potential for the diagnosis and prognosis of neurodegenerative diseases as an individual metabolome reflects alterations in genetic, transcript, and protein profiles and effects from the environment. Small numbers of metabolites have been used to diagnose complex metabolic diseases as well as monogenic disorders such as inborn errors of metabolism.
